Little Green Ride
The Little Green Ride is a north London institution and everyone should try it at least once.
Meet up at Finsbury Park station (on the overground side) at about 9.45 am, link up with your fellow cyclists, usually around six to twelve people, and take the train out to Knebworth or Stevenage. Buying a group ticket keeps the fare small.
Then it's about 30 miles of riding out in the Hertfordshire countryside, overwhelmingly along quiet lanes. Little Green Ride never leaves anyone behind so don't worry about the pace or distance. I've seen all kinds of machines on LGR from recumbent tandems to battered mountain bikes, but a hybrid city bike, tourer or audax bike is probably ideal.
The pub lunch stop is a crucial part of the day and usually a table is booked ahead at cycle-friendly venues in pretty villages.
After lunch it's a leisurely ride back to the station and return time at Finsbury Park is generally between 4 and 5 pm. (Make sure you have lights in winter).
This is a hugely sociable and welcoming ride - give it a try.
